An Update on our Daycare Centre

A highlight of our summer was being blessed to have Ivy Brothers, Melissa Lewis, and Tiffany Moore come visit us from the US! I went down to Accra to meet them at the airport. We spent the night in Accra and visited two families in the Church there.

As soon as we arrived in Kumasi, we had an hour to get ready and then it was time for the first annual closing program for the Daycare which my wife had helped the children and teachers prepare for.

This daycare was begun with the purpose of meeting a need in the community (although we believe it is best when mothers can care for their own children we realize that many don't/won't do that as they seek employment outside the home and we want to at least give those children a safe and Christ-centered care option) and providing employment for Christian ladies who need to help support their families or themselves but would like to work in an environment that is family-friendly (they can bring their children with them if they have any) and Godly. We ended the school year (although the daycare didn't actually close as childcare must be provided for working women throughout the year) with 30 children and three paid staff members.  After the special program we spent the next month working on upgrading, cleaning, and organizing our classrooms with the volunteer help of our visitors.

Part of cleaning included mice hunting!  These are brave ladies - no screams were heard! :)
We were able to get a signboard made for the Daycare which has attracted a lot of new customers.  Over the summer we have now grown to 45 children with more coming each day.
Some financial donations enabled us to get this swing-set and some other equipment made for the children.
With the increase in customers, we have been able to hire two new teachers - Miss Esther Ayamga and Miss Alima Yaya - who are doing a great job with the busy tasks of caring for and teaching these precious little ones.  We continue to keep this a Christ-centered business with the goal of teaching these children that God loves them and to one day read their own Bibles and striving to reach the parents (who are all non-Christians) for Christ by offering Bible studies and showing Christ's love to them.  We are so thankful for the funds we have received through donations made to Create Anew Int. Inc. which allow us to start up and expand such business ideas and create new, self-sustaining jobs for our sisters and brothers in Christ here in Ghana.  We are also so thankful for volunteers like our three visitors who were only here 10 days but helped us accomplish a lot!  More about their visit in our next blog post!

To partner with us in these endeavors, checks can be made out to Create Anew International Inc. and mailed to our Stateside agent, Mrs. Debbie Broyles, 409 W. Atlantic St., Kill Devil Hills, NC 27948.
