We Love VBS!!! and other events this summer

Very shortly after finishing up the school year, we had our annual VBS (Vacation Bible School) week!    We are the only congregation in this neighborhood (probably even in this whole city of over 1.5 million people) that has a VBS each year.  That's because VBS is for KIDS!  Most do not care about the kids - after all, what resources do kids have to offer to the church?  But in Christ's Church we DO CARE about the kids!  Their souls are just as precious and valuable as adults and we want them to know that Jesus loves them and wants to spend eternity with them.  So we just put a banner outside the building and approximately 200 children from the neighborhood come to hear a Bible story, play some games, watch a Bible video, sing Bible songs, eat a snack, and make a Bible craft!  Everyone in the Church (especially those in their teens and early 20's) works together so well to make this week successful.
This year we were very blessed and excited to have Jonny and Jenni Reijgers return from the States for a visit and to help out with the VBS.

To reward the VBS helpers and to spend some extra time with Jonny and Jenni, we took everyone to Lake Bosomtwe which is a beautiful, meteor-crater lake about 45 minutes out of town.
Jessica packed a picnic lunch for everyone and Attah bought watermelons!

The youth in the Church here are a great group and it is exciting to see what they can accomplish when they work together as a team!  We were also very encouraged to be able to host a few more Youth Nites for the college-aged youth and see the group growing.
The Daycare business-as-mission is also growing!  We were able to spend some time after school got out to work on painting and fixing up the facilities a bit.  The largest room now has a cheerful beach scene on the walls, thanks to Jessica and her mom Sherrie's creativity!

Sherrie's palm tree is just amazing and makes this the coolest daycare room in the world for sure!
More news on the Daycare in our next blog post!
